'Absolutely crazy!’ Boris Johnson fuming as millions of booster jab appointments wasted

Addressing a press conference in Downing Street on Tuesday, Mr Johnson said that there are still 9 million people who haven’t had their booster jab. He said: “How absolutely crazy it is. Absolutely crazy that there are two million slots this week for people to get vaccinated and yet the majority of people in ICU for COVID are not vaccinated.

“The overwhelming majority of those in ICU have not been boosted.

“It’s sad but it’s also a huge opportunity for us to try to correct it.”

The discussion over the booster jabs was initiated after the UK reported 218,724 cases of COVID-19 yesterday, the highest number of cases reported to date.

Mr Johnson further stated that as many as 90 percent of those in the intensive care unit with COVID-19 have not had their booster and over 60 percent of those in intensive care with COVID-19 have not had any vaccine at all.

He said: “People are dying needlessly because they haven’t had their jabs and they haven’t had that booster.

“If you haven’t already done so, please get that booster.

“The freedoms that we are able to maintain in the teeth of this Omicron wave have been made possible by the number of people getting boosted.

“It’s the best way to contain this virus, help our NHS, and keep our country open – so please Get Boosted Now.”

Mr Johnson ruled out a lockdown as he said the country could “ride out” Omicron without further restrictions.

The Prime Minister said he would be recommending to the cabinet today that England continue with plan B and said there was unlikely to be a need to go further.

He said: “I would say we have a good chance of getting through the Omicron wave without the need for further restrictions and without the need, certainly, for a lockdown.”
