'Absolutely disgraceful' Boris breaks silence after Keir Starmer attacked in London street

Mr Johnson had said that, as DPP, Sir Keir “spent most of his time prosecuting journalists and failing to prosecute Savile” while facing off demands to resign as Prime Minister over the partygate scandal.

Mr Johnson’s remarks sparked outrage among Tory MPs, with several publicly demanding he resign.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid both also distanced themselves from the comments in a sign of Cabinet fragmentation.

Mr Johnson has since clarified his comments, stating he did not believe that Sir Keir was personally responsible.
