  • However, Arsenal will have to compete with Italian giants Roma and Inter Milan

Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Djed Spence during the January transfer window.

Djed is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and caught the attention of Mikel Arteta during their FA Cup clash with the Gunners last Sunday.

However, Arsenal will have to compete with Italian giants Roma and Inter Milan as the pair are said to be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

Arsenal are said to be looking for defensive reinforcements as Hector Bellerin – who is currently on loan to Real Betis – could leave in the summer.

Therefore, the North London club have turned their attention to Spence – according to The Mirror.

The 21-year-old is said to be valued around the £10million mark by Middlesbrough. However, any deal during the January transfer window will have to be done on a loan back basis.

This is because Spence has already played for his parent club this season. Therefore, he is unable to feature for a third team.

Arsenal will have to fend off interest from Roma and Inter Milan – who are said to be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

Former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho wanted to sign the right-back from Middlesbrough in 2020 but failed to do so. Therefore, he eager to avoid the same fate with Roma.

Spence has made 20 appearances for the Reds this season – scoring once and claiming an assist.

He also played an important role in his side’s shock FA Cup third round victory over Arsenal last weekend.

Former Arsenal legend Ian Wright referred to Spence's performance as 'unbelievable' and said it was only a matter of time until we see the 21-year-old in the Premier League

Forest beat Arsenal at the City Ground on Sunday thanks to a late Lewis Grabban goal.

Former Arsenal legend Ian Wright referred to Spence’s performance as ‘unbelievable’ and said it was only a matter of time until we see the 21-year-old in the Premier League.

‘I saw him after the game and said ‘listen, my friend. You’re on loan from Middlesbrough and I don’t know what’s happened there, because if you can’t get into the Middlesbrough side, I don’t know what’s wrong, so I need to know the full story’, Wright said on his podcast.

‘But let me say, that was one of the best right back performances I have seen for a very long time. A very long time.

‘If we are talking about right-backs performing at an unbelievable level, we’re talking Reece James and Trent (Alexander-Arnold).

‘But I have not seen a combative, technical, swashbuckling performance like that for a very long time.

‘I said to him afterwards, ‘whatever’s happening, whatever you’re doing, the level you’ve just shown us here is the level you have to be consistently hitting, Djed’.
