Barcelona are ‘set to target one of Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski or Mo Salah in their hunt for a striker this summer’ as the club look to build upon Xavi’s renaissance to get back to the top of European football

  • The club are targeting a player they believe can take Xavi’s side up a level
  • Erling Haaland is believed to want to leave Dortmund this summer
  • Mohamed Salah’s future on Merseyside is uncertain after a contract dispute
  • Robert Lewandowski is believed to have always had a desire to play in Spain

Spanish giants Barcelona are targeting a marquee signing this summer in the shape of Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah or Robert Lewandowski, it has been reported.

Speaking earlier this week on the club’s planned summer business, president Joan Laporta poured scorn on the idea that Lionel Messi might return and instead pointed to one of the aforementioned players as Barca targets.

Spanish publication AS reported that Haaland is top of the priority list, with Salah in a first reserve and Lewandowski the least desired of the three.

Talking earlier this week about the possibility of Haaland arriving in Barcelona, Laporta said that the Norwegian would need to express a desire to join the club first.

He told RAC 1 radio station: ‘He would have to express his desire to come to Barça and, for the moment, he hasn’t. Either they adapt to the conditions or I see it as very far away.’

Having seen their January signings, notably Adama Traore and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, hit the ground running the club are said to be convinced that they will land of the three marquee names this summer.

With Salah’s contract status at Liverpool ever more uncertain by the week, it has been rumoured that Barcelona could swoop in for the Egyptian.

However, Barcelona’s financial situation is still said to be perilous and it is unclear if they could afford the player this summer even with him out of contract next year.

Laporta, often bullish about the club’s financial might, admitted that they still need to reduce negative net worth and cut losses.

Robert Lewandowski is thought to represent the least desired of the three names

Ousmane Dembele’s departure in the summer, with the player currently refusing to sign a new deal, could open up space for Salah.

It is believed that Lewandowski is the least desired of the three names, with his age of concern to the club.

When asked about Messi potentially returning from Paris this summer, Laporta responded that they are ‘building a new team’. The arrival of a 33-year-old Lewandowski therefore seems unlikely.
