Four-year-old Gracie-Ann Wheaton died in hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning, following the crash in Newport last Saturday. The family confirmed to WalesOnline that their other child – who cannot be named for legal reasons – had sadly died.
Martin Newman, 41, has appeared in court charged with causing a death by dangerous driving.
District Judge Martin Brown remanded him in custody pending a hearing at Newport Crown Court on February 21.
The second child – believed to be a boy – was left fighting for his life in hospital following the crash.
Five days after the accident, he died from his injuries, the family has confirmed.
Speaking to WalesOnline, a family member said the child “had a very small chance of survival” and the family had known for days how grave the situation was.
They added: “We are all just in shock. We can’t believe it. It hasn’t sunk in.
“We are all heartbroken. But the whole community has been amazing. People are doing so much to help.”
