Chelsea ‘are weighing up a £30m move for Barcelona defender Sergino Dest as cover for injured left-back Ben Chilwell’… with star having fallen down the pecking order under Xavi at the Nou Camp
- Sergino Dest only joined Barcelona in 2020 following a transfer from Ajax
- He was a regular under Ronald Koeman but has played just once under Xavi
- Reports suggest Xavi prefers the likes of Ronald Araujo and Oscar Mingueza
- Chelsea are looking for defensive reinforcements following Ben Chilwell’s injury
Chelsea are reportedly considering a £30million move for Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest as Thomas Tuchel looks to strengthen his defence next month.
The Catalan giants beat Bayern Munich to the signature of the American last year to see him join from Ajax, and was in favour at Camp Nou under Ronald Koeman.
But following the Dutchman’s sacking and the arrival of the club’s legendary former midfielder Xavi as the new boss, the 21-year-old has fallen down the pecking order.

The Blues are on the lookout for cover for Ben Chilwell, who has suffered a partial ACL tear
And The Express now claim Barcelona would allow Dest to leave with the Blues among the sides chasing the USA international as cover for Ben Chilwell, who suffered a partial ACL tear last month.
Dest is primarily deployed as a right-back but his versatility means he is able to cover on the opposite flank equally as adeptly.
Dest has only been fit for three of Xavi’s six LaLiga games in charge, playing the full 90 minutes against Real Betis but sitting on the bench in the other two matches.
But a report in Catalan outlet El Nacional still claims Xavi prefers centre-backs Oscar Mingueza and Ronald Araujo and utility man Sergi Roberto at right-back.

Meanwhile, Xavi’s former team-mate Dani Alves will also be eligible to play in January after joining on a free transfer earlier in the campaign.
The reports come amid claims Xavi is looking to Stamford Bridge for experience in the form of ex-Spain team-mate Cesar Azpilicueta.
The 32-year-old is set to enter the final six months of his current deal next month but reportedly wants to extend his eight-and-a-half-year stay at Stamford Bridge beyond June.
Despite being club captain, he has been forced to sit on the sidelines more often than usual this season following the emergence of academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah.
