‘Hi Jhovan, I heard you have flown over for the game this Saturday, but unfortunately I can’t play, but hopefully I will see you at the game, and I will be back fit soon, all the best pal’, said Brereton.

Having been called up to the Chile squad in June last year, Brereton has since become a fan favourite, netting three times in nine appearances for the South American nation.

He was eligible for La Roja after being discovered by a researcher who noticed him on Football Manager.

The 22-year-old striker has since been selected on the bench for two World Cup qualifiers, before playing a starring role in the Copa America.

His rise to stardom has seen Brereton become a national hero in Chile, as well as becoming the face of drinks brand Pepsi in the country.

Brereton has netted 20 times in 30 appearances for Blackburn this season and is continuing to impress.

Leeds have previously been keen on his services as have other teams, and if he  continues to find the net on a regular basis and star for both club and country, then he could soon be plying his trade in the Premier League.
