Cristiano Ronaldo predicted Martin Odegaard would go on to enjoy a successful elite career
In an interview with BT Sport, Ronaldo named Odegaard as one of five players he believed would go on to enjoy successful careers.
Interestingly, Eden Hazard, Paul Pogba, Neymar and Memphis Depay also made the shortlist, placing Arsenal’s talisman in esteemed company.
‘You see many players with potential,’ Ronaldo said.
Odegaard (L) has impressed for Arsenal this season, particularly over their superb December
‘I will mention Martin Odegaard of Madrid for example, at 16 he’s still young but you can see he’s a very good player.’
‘He’s a great player, I think he’s a young boy, he can still grow,’ he went on to add.
‘He has a good future ahead. We must give him time to learn, to take his best decisions. But I see a lot of potential in the player, he has got a good left foot.’
It has taken several years for Odegaard to find his feet at the top level, but his impressive form has helped Arsenal move into fourth in the Premier League.
Current Manchester United superstar Ronaldo had said Odegaard had a ‘good future’ ahead
Odegaard failed to make an impact at Real Madrid, and joined Arsenal permanently in August
This season, he has scored four goals and picked up three assists.
And in December, he has six goal contributions in as many league games, including two assists in the 5-0 victory against Norwich on Boxing Day.
No other player in the top-flight has bettered his numbers for the month.
