Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be the ‘PERFECT’ signing for Arsenal in the summer, according to Perry Groves… as he insists the Gunners ‘without a doubt’ need to sign a striker as Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette and continue to stall over new deals

  • Mikel Arteta failed to sign Dusan Vlahovic during the January transfer window
  • Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are also out of contract in the summer
  • Therefore, Arsenal are in need of a striker during the summer transfer window
  • Former Gunner Perry Groves says Arsenal shoudl target Dominic Calvert-Lewin
  • Groves says the striker has a ‘good attitude’ and says he presses well off the ball
  • However, Arsenal will have to battle it out with West Ham, Newcastle and United

Former Arsenal legend and TalkSPORT pundit Perry Groves as urged the Gunners to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a striker after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona and Mikel Arteta failed to secure the signing of Dusan Vlahovic.

As a result, the goal scoring responsibility has fallen on the shoulders of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah – who are both out of contract this summer.

With both Lacazette and Nketiah are yet to commit their future to Arsenal, Groves thinks it is vital that Arsenal plan ahead for the summer transfer window.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Groves said: ‘Without a shadow of a doubt, they [Arsenal] need to sign a centre-forward [in the summer transfer window].

‘I don’t think they are going to re-sign Alexandre Lacazette. I am a big fan of Lacazette, the quality he brings players in around him with the physicality.

‘Obviously his goal scoring output has dropped substantially over the last 18 months but the money and the wages he is on, I don’t think they will renew for that sort of money.’

When asked who he would like to see the club sign, Groves said he thought Arteta should be targeting Everton striker Calvert-Lewin.

The former Arsenal legend said: ‘I would bring in someone like [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin. I think he would fit in perfectly.’

Groves added: ‘Calvert-Lewin’s attitude is good, taught by Carlo Ancelotti and off the ball he can close down and press.’

However, Arsenal will face stiff competition to sign Calvert-Lewin during the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old has a host of potential suitors vying over his signature.

Frank Lampard will be reluctant to let Calvert-Lewin leave the club, but could be forced to part ways with the striker if Everton are relegated.

As it stands, Everton are one place off the relegation zone – sitting just one points ahead of Burnley.

West Ham are among those monitoring Calvert-Lewin’s situation at Everton as they prepare to make a move for the highly sought after striker.

Meanwhile, Newcastle and Manchester United have also been linked with the England international.
