  • The British Boxing Board of Control have suspended boxing during January
  • The governing body’s medical panel advised them to make the call due to Covid
  • Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Williams will have to rearrange their January 29 bout
  • The bitter rivals already postponed their 160lbs scrap back in December

The British Boxing Board of Control have suspended all UK boxing in January as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic – forcing Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Williams to postpone their middleweight clash for a second time.

After receiving advice from their medical panel, the BBBofC have confirmed that no fights will take place over the next month, with the sport due to get back up and running again in February.

The decision comes as a major blow to Eubank and Williams, who were finally poised to settle their bitter feud in Cardiff on January 29.

Their 160lbs scrap was initially scheduled to go ahead on December 11, only for Williams to delay the contest when he picked up a shoulder injury.

After discovering his rival had postponed the bout, Eubank wrote on Twitter: ‘Hey Liam ‘Wettiams’ if your bottling it like I said u would hurry up & put out your sob story apology to the few fans u have left so I can find another opponent.

‘You may not have the heart to fight me but there are other fighters that do #AllFartNoStink #Wettiams’.

Williams will have a new trainer in his corner when he eventually meets Eubank, having announced he is teaming up with renowned coach Adam Booth shortly after the postponement.

Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom revealed Eubank’s suspicions over his opponent’s injury, telling Sky Sports: ‘Chris definitely felt that Liam Williams, there was something strange going on.

‘We’ve now seen the medical reports.

‘I think, to be honest, Liam knows this is the biggest fight of his career. It’s a legacy fight for him, in Cardiff, in front of his own fans, and so he just wanted to make sure he was 100 per cent ready for what will be a huge, huge fight.

‘Chris maybe thinks there’s something going on, but I assure you there’s not.’
