Former Newcastle Women’s goalkeeper Dominyka Podziute has passed away.
Podziute, who also played for Hartlepool United and Northern League Division 2 side Chester le Street Town, suddenly died on Wednesday.
Tributes for the ‘much-loved’ goalkeeper flooded in on Thursday after her passing was confirmed.
Newcastle Women’s side posted a heartfelt message on Twitter, saying: ‘We are devastated to hear of the passing of our former player Dominyka Podziute.
‘Dom was a much loved member of the squad during her time at the club, and will be sorely missed across North East football.
‘Our thoughts are with Dom’s family and friends at this difficult time.’

Chester le Street Town confirmed Podziute’s passing while her former clubs paid tribute
The tweet read: ‘We are saddened to hear the news that one of our former players Dominyka Podziute has sadly passed away, our thoughts and sincere condolences are with her family at this deeply sad time.’
The men’s side tweeted: ‘Everyone at Hartlepool United would like to send their love and thoughts to the family and friends of former @Official_HUWFC player Dominyka Podziute. Rest in peace, Dominyka.’
Podziute recently joined Chester le Street Town from Hartlepool United, with the Northern League Division 2 side confirming the news.
Chester le Street said in a statement: ‘It is with deep sadness that we have today learned that Dominyka Podziute who recently signed for our Ladies section from Hartlepool United Women has sadly passed away.
