When four wheels isn’t enough: American hypercar brand Hennessey releases a 6X6 ‘Texas tank’ that costs nearly half a million dollars
- The six-wheeler is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine producing a massive 1,012bhp
- It rides on six 20-inch wheels wrapped in 37-inch off-road tyres and needs upgraded electronic steps to get in
- At 7.2 metres long, it’s almost twice the length of a Ford Fiesta and around the same as a small sailing yacht
- Texas-based Hennessey said it will produce only 12 examples per year, each priced at $449,950
Forget your Chelsea tractors – this new SUV is more like a Texas-tank. It’s called the Hennessey Mammoth 1000 6X6 TRX and – as you may have already spotted – it sports an additional two wheels and is as long as a small yacht.
Under the bonnet is a 1,012bhp 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, while the seven-metre-long body rides on 20-inch wheels wrapped in chunky 37-inch off-road tyres.
Only 12 will be produced each year, with each six-wheeler offered at a price of $449,950.
A wheely long truck: This is the new $450,000 Hennessey Mammoth 1000 6X6 TRX – a limited-edition six-wheel pick-up that’s as long as a sailing yacht
The US vehicle brand says its latest model is available for global shipping, though drivers willing to fork out around £350,000 will likely find this is a motor that’s too big for the UK’s roads.
It’s based on the Dodge Ram TRX pick-up, though the addition of a third axle to accommodate the two extra wheels bolts on another four feet to its length.
In total, it measures in at 7.2 metres – that’s almost 24 feet. You can buy sailing yachts the same size.
It’s also 2.2 metres across, which will make it as wide as some country lanes in rural Britain and means a traditional three-point turn anywhere in the UK will pretty be out of the question.
The whopping proportions don’t end there, with the pick-up standing 2.1 metres high. Fortunately, it comes with upgraded electronic fold-out steps all round, just in case you were worried you might not be able to get in and out of the monster truck,
Hennessey says the enormous 6X6 pick-up truck ‘dwarfs ordinary cars and trucks’. A quick dimension check shows it is almost twice the length of a Ford Fiesta (4.04 metres) and two metres longer than the all-new Range Rover.

The extra length means the load bay area is so expansive that Ikea’s biggest flat-pack wardrobe would be no challenge for this particular vehicle.
The Dodge RAM TRX it uses as a donor machine isn’t exactly a shrinking violet itself, with the eight-cylinder powerplant in the tuned four-wheel SUV producing 702bhp.
However, the addition of a 2.65-litre supercharger, high-flow fuel injectors and upgraded induction system, Hennessey has wrangled and extra 300bhp out of the V8 engine.
The Texas-based car maker already sells a four-wheel Mammoth 1000 TRX with the same engine specification, which is claimed to be capable of accelerating from a standstill to 60mph in 3.2 seconds and complete a quarter-mile sprint in 11.4 seconds – though expect the 6X6’s times to be quite a lot longer.

John Hennessey, company founder and chief executive, has dubbed the 6X6 the ‘undisputed king of the road’.
He said: ‘Everything we do at Hennessey Performance is turned up to 11, but the Mammoth 1000 6×6 is definitely turned up to 12!
‘Everything on the Mammoth 6×6 is bigger, badder, and more imposing – plus, it’s still super-fast, while being a total powerhouse off-road.’
The interior is unique to this model with lots of ‘TRX’ touches. Hennessey says it will produce only around 12 version each year

Target customers will most likely be wealthy clients living in the US and Middle East, where the wider roads are more suitable for behemoth vehicles like this one
Hennessey has a track record of success when it comes to gigantic and exclusive 6X6 trucks.
The company has built and delivered more than 20 six wheeler models to clients all around the world, it says.
Like all other Hennessey models, the Mammoth 1000 TRX will be sold with a two-year/24,000-mile warranty – not quite the seven-year/100,000-mile market-leading cover you get from Kia in the UK.
The target clientele for the limited run of vehicles will most likely live in the USA and Middle East, where the network of wider and straighter roads will be more suitable for a motor of these bulging proportions.
