Jorge Masvidal says fight with ‘little b*****’ Conor McGregor ‘makes the most sense’ next, as ‘Gamebred’ claims UFC have matched old rival Nate Diaz poorly with welterweight prodigy Khamzat Chimaev

  • Jorge Masvidal has said a fight with Conor McGregor ‘makes the most sense’
  • The welterweight has also been called out by Leon Edwards and Gilbert Burns
  • He is looking to return to the ring after defeat against Colby Covington in March
  • The 37-year-old has been critical of the Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev matchup

UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal is eyeing up a fight with Conor McGregor when he returns to the octagon.

The 37-year-old hasn’t fought since losing to Colby Covington by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 272 in March.

But he is eager to return as soon as he can, and, speaking to MMA Fighting, claimed a bout with McGregor ‘makes the most sense’.

‘The one that makes the most sense is that little b**** Conor,’ Masvidal said.

‘I wouldn’t mind getting a fat paycheck for beating that midget’s a** up. I don’t know if it’s going to happen.

‘Gilbert [Burns] makes sense, but Leon [Edwards] has been calling me out left and right saying he wants to defend the title against me [if he beats Kamaru Usman at UFC 278].

‘Let’s go, I’ll go to England and beat your a** again.’

McGregor, Edwards, and Gilbert Burns have all referenced potential fights with the former BMF champion in recent times.

Masvidal wants to return this year, but he isn’t sure if it’s possible because of issues away from the octagon.

He’s facing multiple felony charges for allegedly attacking Covington in Miami in March.

The trial for the case begins later this month.

Masvidal said: ‘I want to fight Gilbert, but is it going to be this year, is it going to be next year? I don’t know.

‘I’ve got to heal myself up, and not to be a Debbie Downer, but I do have some legal issues I’ve got to take care of and address, then I’ll get right back on the murder scene.

‘I’ve got three felonies they’re charging me with. So I need to handle this, then it’s back to breaking faces.’

Meanwhile, ‘Gamebred’ has suggested his old rival Nate Diaz has been poorly matched in his upcoming fight against Khamzat Chimaev.

The two will face off at UFC 279 on September 10, and the bout is set to be Diaz’s last fight for a while with the 37-year-old reportedly showing little interest in signing a new contract following what will be the last match on his UFC contract.

Via MMA News, Masvidal told MMA Fighting: ‘They probably wanted to pair Diaz with somebody that stylistically is not the best when I think of, what’s his face, f****** Khamzat.

‘So they gave him a boring a** probably that’s probably just going to try to hug his legs and sniff his crotch.’

It is reported that many fans view the bout as Diaz being forced to face an up-and-coming star in his final outing.

Khamzat could earn a welterweight title fight with a victory over Diaz.
