Macron vows to CRUSH Brussels rebels minutes into speech – demands EU rules obeyed

In a thinly-veiled swipe at Poland and Hungary, the French President told MEPs in Strasboug on Wednesday that his team will work strongly against totalitarian regimes threatening the EU’s rule of law. In a speech to present France’s agenda for the rotating EU Presidency, Mr Macron said: “An idea is being pushed to undermine the sovereignty of our people.

“So we are going to work against that. We’re going to talk and defend the power of the rule of law in every instance.

“I say through dialogue because it is not a question that the rule of law is some kind of invention made in Brussels and Brussels is the only thing that can run it.

“That’s not true.

“It’s the result of our common history. The revolutions over the last century so people could free themselves from totalitarianism.

“And it’s a question of convincing people again who have drifted away from the respect of the rule of law.

“We need to win over them again.”
