Marseille fans BANNED from Parc des Princes for Paris Saint-Germain clash, as authorities extend five-year ban on away fans at Le Clasique in the wake of increased fan violence across French stadiums this season

Marseille fans will not be allowed to attend their Ligue 1 clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night amid the ongoing problems of fan violence. 

The French Interior Ministry have banned all Marseille fans from attending ‘Le Classique’ with bitter rivals PSG at Parc des Princes. 

A 24-hour travel ban has been put in place by the French authorities less than 36 hours before the encounter.

PSG are 12 points head of their rivals in the league table, and are on course to get their hands on their 10th Ligue 1 trophy at the end of the season. 

‘The individual or collective movement, by any means, of any person claiming the status of Olympique de Marseille or behaving as such, is prohibited between the municipalities of the department of Bouches-du-Rhone and the municipalities of the region of Ile-de-France’, a statement read.

The decision was made due to the animosity and strong antagonism between both sets of supporters.

Previously, eight police officers were left injured on February 28, 2018, which was the last time both sets of fans attended the match.

The Ligue 1 season has been marked by plenty of fan violence at clashes including Lyon, nice, Marseille, Lens, Brest and Angers.

Marseille and former West Ham star Dimitri Payet forward was also previously targeted by rival fans, with missiles which appeared to be bottles, being thrown at him.

Meanwhile, Lens fans will not be allowed to make the 33km trip to face arch-rivals Lille on Saturday for their ‘Derby of the North’ clash.
