Middlesbrough stood firm to take three points off of Tony Mowbray’s Sunderland in the Championship fixture at the Riverside Stadium.
Riley McGree scored the decisive goal for Middlesbrough in the 25th minute as he took the ball away from Sunderland’s Danny Batth before poking past Anthony Patterson to give his side.
Sunderland tried to get back into the game and Duncan Watmore went close in the final stages but could not beat Liam Roberts in the Boro goal.
