Mohamed Salah ‘has demanded Liverpool sign another striker during negotiations over a new long-term deal’… with club desperate to tie Egypt star down beyond current contract expiring in 2023
- Mohamed Salah and Liverpool have been locked in talks over a new contract
- The Egyptian star’s deal at Anfield is set to expire in the summer of 2023
- But reports in Germany claim he has demanded a new forward be signed
- Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Porto’s Luis Diaz have been linked
Mohamed Salah is reportedly demanding Liverpool sign another striker if he is to agree a new long-term contract at the club.
The 29-year-old has been locked in talks with the Reds over extending his stay at the club beyond 2023 – when his current contract expires – since the beginning of the season.
Boss Jurgen Klopp revealed last week that Liverpool are having ‘really good conversations’ with the Egypt international over a new contract, but he has yet to commit his future.

However, Sky Germany via The Mirror claim a brand new forward has been part of Salah’s demands during talks over a new contract at Anfield, with Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland and Porto winger Luis Diaz having been linked.
It follows reports Salah is thought to be happy and settled at Liverpool, but wants to see the club demonstrate ambition to keep winning trophies by refreshing their squad with major new signings.
The 29-year-old said in October: ‘If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career, but I can’t say much about that – it’s not in my hands. It depends on what the club want, not on me.
‘At the moment I can’t see myself ever playing against Liverpool. It’s hard, I don’t want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad. At the moment I don’t see myself playing against Liverpool but let’s see what will happen in the future.’

But Klopp appeared optimistic more recently, stating: ‘We are in really good conversations. I want it to happen, but when? I couldn’t care less.’
The Reds’ star forward is in the form of his life, with 22 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and is widely considered to be one of the best players in the world.
He however will be heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations next month, with the competition running from January 9 to February 6, with team-mates Sadio Mane and Naby Keita also set to miss matches for title-chasing Liverpool.
Egypt however have reportedly agreed to allow Salah to play for Liverpool in their Premier League fixture against title rivals Chelsea on January 2.
