Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City mural is defaced for a SECOND time as red paint and ‘MUFC’ are sprayed over the charity project near the Etihad Stadium

  • Pep Guardiola’s mural in Manchester has been defaced for a second time
  • The artwork had red paint thrown over it and the words MUFC sprayed on
  • The mural took three days to create by local street artist Mark Silver
  • It has been designed to help raise money for local and national charities

A mural honouring Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been vandalised for a second time after red paint was thrown over the artistry adorning the side of a house in the city.

The sky-blue design showing a close-up of Guardiola with the Man City logo was first defaced with green writing reading ‘MUFC’ just over a week ago, just hours after it was created.

The mural, located near the Etihad Stadium, took three days for artist Mark Silver to create before a disastrous act forced him to return to fix the initial vandalism.

Now in the build-up to Sunday’s Manchester derby, red paint has been thrown over the mural along with the familiar ‘MUFC’ being sprayed on as well.

Home owner Lesley Kelly had the artwork erected in a bid to raise money for local and national charities spoke of her frustration and disappointment at the second riotous act.

‘It’s just so frustrating,’ Kelly told Manchester Evening News.

‘It’s mindless thugs at it again, a neighbour managed to shout at them this time so they quickly got away on bikes.

‘It has nothing to do with football, it’s vandalism which is just stupid. United fans have come up to us and said it’s not on, it’s here to brighten up and help the community.

‘We put this hear so we could collect for different charities and raise awareness of some really important causes’.

Mr Silver will now have to return again to fix the extensive damage caused by vandals with the artist suggesting the only solution may be to cover the mural in special paint that allows graffiti to be washed off.
