Peston: ‘Tense few days’ for Boris Johnson as Sue Gray partygate report due in DAYS

Writing on Twitter but reiterating what was said on ITV news, Mr Peston said a reliable source had told him there was a 60 percent chance Ms Gray’s report would be published on Friday after the PM had read it. He said: “As I said on @ITV News; reliable sources tells me a 60:40 chance Sue Gray’s report will be published on Friday.

“She expects the PM to read it (maybe overnight on Thursday) but not to make any changes. Or so I am told.

“Unusually the house is sitting on Friday. Tense few days for PM.”

Mr Peston seemed to be implying that given Parliament was sitting on Friday it could give MPs an opportunity to scrutinise the findings.

Alternatively, Mr Johnson may use the opportunity to reset his premiership and move on from the incident.

Ms Grey is investigating around 13 parties held in Downing Street during the pandemic which appear to have broken lockdown rules.

The most infamous of these events was the party in the Downing Street Garden on 20 May, 2020.

The Prime Minister’s Principal Private Secretary Martin Reynolds invited around 100 staff to “socially distanced drinks” in the garden at number 10.

Mr Johnson and his then partner (now wife) Carrie Symonds were present at the party.

Ms Gray’s report is expected to be factual rather than proportioning blame.
