Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and Chelsea centre half Thiago Silva have been singled out by William Gallas.
The 44-year-old turned out in the Premier League more than 200 times during his spells at Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.
The Frenchman also earned 84 caps for his country between 2002 and 2010 and now the ex-centre back has picked out the best defenders in the Premier League.

‘I will speak about two players. I will speak about Thiago Silva because, he always finds the edge. I think what he does for Chelsea, it’s magnificent,’ he told Genting Casino.
‘As you know, to play in the Premier League it’s not easy. It’s very physical. And Thiago Silva is 36 years old. He is the boss of that defence. He’s mature, he’s got experience.
‘So that’s why players like Rudiger and Chalobah, when they play next to Thiago Silva, they feel secure. Thiago Silva, with his experience, he takes all the pressure on his shoulder.
‘Thiago Silva is one of the best defenders in the Premier League.’
Silva is one of the best pieces of transfer business Chelsea have managed in recent years, snapping up the Brazil star for free in the summer of 2020.
In his short spell at Stamford Bridge the centre back has played 55 times, becoming one of Tuchel’s key men after following him through the door from PSG.
He only signed on an initial one-year deal but agreed a one-year contract extension in June taking him through to 2022.

Gallas did not choose Liverpool centre half Virgil van Dijk as one of the standout defenders of the top flight, but selected City and Portugal’s Dias alongside Silva.
‘He is a very strong, and a very thoughtful defender. He doesn’t make a lot of fouls. In his position, that is always good. That is how he communicates to his team,’ he added.
‘He doesn’t speak a lot, but he doesn’t have to. But you know, he looks strong. So those two players, for me, are the best defenders in the Premier League.’
Analysts at CIES, the football observatory based in Switzerland, have compiled the best XIs in each of the major European Leagues, based on a performance index they compile using match stats from Opta.
City’s Dias and Aymeric Laporte made the Premier League’s best XI while former defenders Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville chose their top-flight team of the season at the halfway stage earlier this week.
Carragher selected Van Dijk and Silva’s Chelsea team-mate Antonio Rudiger as his centre-back pairing, while Neville picked out Dias and Rudiger.
