Professional chef Darren O’Grady prepared meals in the royal kitchen for the Queen, Prince Harry, Prince William and Princess Diana during a 15-year stint in the Buckingham Palace kitchen. He revealed Her Majesty tends to avoid fast food as a general rule. But like millions of Britons throughout the country, she has a fondness for hamburgers.
The Queen wouldn’t also visit her nearest McDonald’s, Burger King or KFC or order a delivery online to get her fast-food fix.
Instead, she would ask her kitchen to prepare a meat patty from scratch.
Mr O’Grady said: “It always tickled me at Balmoral, we would make our own burgers.
“They would shoot deer, and we would do venison burgers.
“There’d be gorgeous cranberry stuffed into them, but we never set buns out.”
But when the royal chef wasn’t preparing bun-free burgers for the Queen, he was mainly cooking up French food.
He also revealed that during his 15 years at the palace, Her Majesty did not enjoy a pizza and not a single one was served.
In a previous interview in November 2017, Mr O’Grady revealed she never eats garlic or shellfish when travelling abroad on a state visit.
The Queen has visited dozens of countries during her near-70 year reign as monarch and during state visits, is treated to incredible meals to sample the local cuisine.
But former private chef Mr O’Grady revealed why the Queen will never eat garlic.
He told Marie Clare: “The Queen would never have garlic on the menu.
“She hated the smell of it, she hated the taste of it.”
But this isn’t the only food Her Majesty avoids when travelling abroad, as she also swerves eating shellfish when in a foreign country.
