The Met Office warned that the high winds could cause damage to buildings, blowing tiles from roofs and flinging trees to the ground.
Transport, including road, rail, air and ferry, will likely end up stalled in areas under the warning.
At the same time, the heavy winds could force roads and bridges to close while causing power cuts elsewhere.
The yellow warning also comes with a danger to life alert.
