Southampton ‘are NOT planning a bid to sign’ impressive on-loan Chelsea striker Armando Broja permanently this month… as West Ham also eye a deal for the Albanian

  • Southampton not planning to sign Armando Broja permanently this month
  • The 20-year-old has netted seven times in 21 outings for the Saints this season
  • West Ham are reportedly interested in signing the Albanian international striker

Southampton are not planning a bid to make Armando Broja’s loan move permanent, despite initial reports of a £25m deal in place for the Chelsea striker.

The Albanian international has been in fine form for the Saints, scoring seven goals in 21 outings since joining on loan last summer.

There is however no plans to make his move permanent in the final days of the January transfer window, despite ongoing interest from Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, according to talkSPORT.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said of the player’s future earlier this month: ‘We will find the right conversation with the player, the agents, the club. What they want, what Chelsea want.

‘I think we should let the young lad develop his game because this is the most important thing for him to play games.

‘He likes it here, he enjoys it here, we have a young team and these are all reasons why he develops his game and is getting better.

‘In the end we need to make the best decision for the player, when it’s a win, win, win for everybody, then we will find the right decision for the summer.

‘As long as he is our player, we will have as much fun with him and make him better.’

West Ham are reportedly interested in the 20-year-old, who has only played four minutes of first-team football for Chelsea, featuring against Everton in the Premier League in March 2020.

The Hammers are desperately looking to sign a forward to help provide competition and support to Michail Antonio.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are even prepared to listen to offers for their academy graduate, as the European champions are said to be weighing up his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

He only put pen to paper on a new five-year contract last July, meaning Blues officials will be able to command a sizeable transfer fee should they decide to cash in on him.

A number of teams have already enquired about their asking price for Broja, who scored 11 goals in 34 appearances on loan in Holland with Vitesse last season.

Barcelona star Ansu Fati is ‘set to miss up to THREE months out’ after suffering a hamstring injury in Copa del Rey defeat… as injury-hit teenager opts AGAINST surgery in favour of a ‘conservative recovery plan’

  • Barcelona’s Ansu Fati is facing two to three months out with a hamstring injury
  • The 19-year-old came off injured in the Copa del Rey loss by Athletic Bilbao
  • He is reluctant to have surgery on his latest injury after previous treatment
  • The Catalan club confirmed that Fati will follow a ‘conservative recovery plan’
  • Fati has scored five goals in just 10 matches for the Catalan giants this season

Barcelona star Ansu Fati is set to miss two to three months worth of action after suffering a hamstring injury in the club’s Copa del Rey defeat by Athletic Bilbao.

The 19-year-old has only featured 10 times for Barca so far this season due to struggling with multiple injuries and he has now suffered yet another setback.

Fati hobbled off the pitch in tears in the Catalan giants’ Copa del Rey defeat to Athletic Bilbao and he had to be consoled by manager Xavi and his opposite number, Marcelino.

And now reports in Spain are claiming he won’t be back on the pitch until the end of March at the earliest as he begins his rehabilitation on his hamstring injury.

According to Sport, the teenager is facing a three-month spell on the sidelines, leaving him with yet another disappointing injury to overcome this season.

It’s already clear that another surgery might be a good idea, something Barca have advised him of.

But Fati has opted against surgery for a fourth time this season and has instead chosen to conduct a ‘conservative recovery plan’, according to the club’s official website.

Fati took to social media earlier this week where he vowed to ‘never give up’ after learning the news of his injury.

He wrote on Twitter: ‘Unfortunately, I am having to live the worst part of football, but I will never give up! Thank you very much for your messages of support and love! NEVER GIVE UP.’

The La Masia graduate has a ‘terrible memory’ of the meniscus arthroscopy he underwent ‘where many mistakes were made’ as he had to go through the operating room three times last year, reports Barca Universal.

Fati’s first injury came on November, 7, 2020 when he tore the meniscus in his left knee which required multiple bouts of surgery.

Then on September, 26, 2021, Fati returned only to suffer recurring ailments which stunted his progress.

Despite constant injury setbacks, the youngster has been in excellent form for the Catalans when he has played.

Fati has three goals in five LaLiga games and five in 10 in all competitions.

Ronald Araujo ‘REJECTS Barcelona’s opening contract offer’ as his Nou Camp future remains uncertain… with ‘Chelsea and Man United both interested in bringing the Uruguayan defender to the Premier League’

  • Ronald Araujo has reportedly rejected Barcelona’s opening contract offer
  • It’s claimed Chelsea and Manchester United are preparing to take advantage
  • Araujo, 22, has become Xavi’s top choice to partner Gerard Pique at centre back
  • But he wants a new deal that reflects his performances and role in the team

Ronald Araujo has reportedly rejected Barcelona’s opening contract offer as Chelsea and Manchester United prepare to take advantage.

Araujo, 22, has developed into one of Barcelona’s top defenders since earning a promotion from the club’s B team in 2019, overtaking Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti to become Xavi’s top choice to partner Gerard Pique.

However, the Uruguayan’s future is unclear with his contract expiring in the summer of 2023 and both parties no closer to agreeing terms on a new deal.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Araujo has turned down Barcelona’s opening offer after talks between the club and his agent last week.

It’s claimed that although the offer was quickly rejected, talks were ‘amicable’ and more negotiations are expected in the coming months.

But news of Araujo’s uncertainty over his future at the Nou Camp has given Premier League sides Chelsea and United hope of tempting him to England.

Chelsea could be in desperate need of defenders this summer with Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta all out of contract at the end of the season.

United, meanwhile, are still looking for ways to tighten up their defence after the poor form of Harry Maguire and the underwhelming performances of Raphael Varane since he arrived from Real Madrid.

There is still a strong possibility that Araujo stays put at Barcelona, however. It’s thought that sporting director Mateu Alemany has made his new contract a ‘priority’.

Given Barcelona’s financial woes and need to spend funds in other areas of Xavi’s squad, tying down Araujo seems like an obvious necessity given his age and ability.

It’s thought the player wants to commit his future to Barcelona but will only do so if he is offered a contract that reflects his recent displays.

Real Madrid have also shown interest in Araujo but, as Sportsmail reported earlier this week, the Spanish rivals have ‘agreed an unwritten rule’ to stop speaking to each other’s players under contract.

Chelsea ‘have MORE unhappy players than just Romelu Lukaku’, with their attackers ‘upset by Thomas Tuchel’s “brutal” manner and blaming boss for their errors’… leaving them to look at moves away

  • Chelsea have an issue with a number of attacking players unhappy with their role
  • Romelu Lukaku voiced his displeasure last year in an interview with Sky Italia
  • However, it has emerged the striker isn’t the only one upset with Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea have a string of attacking players unhappy with their treatment under Thomas Tuchel, with some seriously considering their futures at the club.

The German technician celebrated a year in charge at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, having picked up the Best FIFA’s Men’s Coach Award for 2021 last week.

However, matters on the pitch this season have not been quite as rosy, with the victory over Tottenham on Sunday just their second win in eight in the Premier League.

A public questioning of Tuchel’s tactics by striker Romelu Lukaku during a Sky Italia interview in December brought issues to a head, with the Belgian left out for one game before being brought back in.

But a report from The Athletic suggests that Lukaku is far from the only forward who is unhappy with life under the current head coach.

It is claimed that Tuchel’s attitude towards his forwards, including constant berating on the touchline and harsh words for mistakes, has made for a low mood.

Tuchel has often been seen giving makeshift wingback Christian Pulisic a dressing down

Tuchel has often been seen giving makeshift wingback Christian Pulisic a dressing down

An inability to hide his frustrations has been picked up on by many of them, and has upset some to the extent that they are considering seeking an exit from Chelsea in the near future.

A source told the publication that it has had a detrimental impact on confidence, with players less likely to take on risky opportunities or use their instincts for fear of Tuchel lashing out at them.

The report also points to the constant chopping and changing in selection up front as a reason for the disillusionment among forwards, with the feeling being that a lakc of a consistent frontline is making it difficult for them to build any form of connection and chemistry on the pitch.

Tuchel’s attitude towards certain players in his squad has been notable from his appearances on the touchline this season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has also been moved to a wing-back role where he has struggled

Callum Hudson-Odoi has also been moved to a wing-back role where he has struggled

Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi have both been converted to wing backs by the 48-year-old, yet both seem to come in for dressing downs on the touchline from their head coach despite their unfamiliarity with the role.

Hakim Ziyech is one of the players that has struggled for form this season, but it has been difficult for the 28-year-old to find his rhythm having been in and out of the team.

He refused to celebrate his goal against Brighton earlier in the month, although he didn’t repeat his message when scoring against Tottenham on Sunday in what was a stand-out performance from the Morocco international.

Timo Werner’s issues up front for Chelsea have been well documented since making his big money move from RB Leipzig, but has struggled for regular game time.

He and fellow German Kai Havertz were signed for a combined fee of £124million but have started just once together this campaign, during the 3-2 win over Leeds in December. Both started the Champions League final success against Manchester City last year.

Tottenham ‘table a £37m offer for in-demand Porto winger Luis Diaz’, but bid looks set to be rebuffed as it falls under his ‘£67m release clause’ – with the attacker and his club ‘not inclined’ to part ways this season

  • Antonio Conte is desperate to strengthen his Tottenham side in this window
  • Porto winger Luis Diaz is a target, with Spurs even lodging a £37million bid
  • But that looks set to fall short with Diaz and his club in no rush to part ways
  • Recent reports claimed that the forward has a £67m release clause in his deal

Tottenham have tabled an offer worth around £37million (€45m) for Porto forward Luis Diaz, according to reports, although this falls short of his release clause.

Antonio Conte is desperate to strengthen his squad in the winter window, with a new attacker high on his list of targets – and the impressive Diaz is on the shortlist.

However, Spurs’ efforts to snap him up for a reasonable fee are continuing to falter, with both the winger and his club in no rush to part ways this season.

Indeed, it has been claimed by O Jogo in Portugal that the latest bid from the north London outfit is below his valuation, and therefore looks set to be rebuffed.

Currently, Porto are ‘analysing’ the recent proposal, which may rise to a £41.7m (€50m) fee with bonuses, but are said to not be ‘inclined’ to accept it.

To little surprise, the club are desperate to tie down their talisman until at least the end of the campaign, while they continue to close in on the Primeira Liga title.

It has been reported the exit clause written into Diaz’s contract is worth £67million, and that any potential suitor would need to match it to buy him.

The fact he also has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal also means that Porto are in a strong negotiating position, further adding to Spurs’ frustration.

Multiple sources have linked them to Diaz, though. SIC Noticias revealed that they tabled a £37.6m offer, which may again rise with performance-related bonuses.

In a surprise twist, however, Tottenham are said to have given the club just 48 hours to respond to their offer, suggesting they may set their sights on other targets.

Liverpool have also been linked with Diaz, a Colombia international, but it is understood they are not looking to make any signings during this window.

Manchester United reportedly sent scouts to watch him in action last week, with the club potentially mulling over making a sensational approach of their own.

It was claimed Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund also had talent spotters in the stands to take in Diaz’s showing in the 3-1 victory over Famalicao on January 23.

Diaz has scored 16 goals and picked up six assists in 28 appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Spurs are moving closer to wrapping up a £20m deal for Wolves winger Adama Traore, after their initial £15m bid was rejected by the Molineux side.

Sportsmail has reported that both clubs are expected to come to an agreement in the near future, with talks ongoing. Boss Conte plans to play him at wing back.

Rio Ferdinand reveals he and Wayne Rooney would ‘swear and argue’ with each other in EVERY Manchester United training session… and insists the former striker was ‘unplayable’ at the height of his goal-scoring career

  • Rio Ferdinand has said he and Wayne Rooney would argue every training session
  • The pair were Manchester United and England team-mates for a number of years
  • Ferdinand says the ‘anger’ they had would prompt them to swear in arguments
  • He also admitted Rooney was ‘unplayable’ at the height of his goal-scoring days

Rio Ferdinand has revealed he would become embroiled in heated arguments with Wayne Rooney in ‘every training session’ when they were Manchester United team-mates.

Together they won a number of Premier League titles and the Champions League with the Red Devils, while they also chalked up plenty of England caps alongside each other.

But Ferdinand has revealed their competitive nature would often get the better of them and they would take their frustrations out on each other during sessions at Carrington.

Ferdinand says the ‘anger’ they had would prompt them to swear and get heated in their rows

Speaking on his latest Vibe with Five YouTube video, Ferdinand revealed they would even ‘swear and argue in every training session’.

He said: ‘Angry Wayne Rooney is playing in my all-time Premier League XI.

‘I used to have him on a bit of string. Oh my god, we used to argue every training session.

‘Me and him used to swear at each other and argue like you’d never know – in games and training.

‘Just that anger, whether same team or opposite team it didn’t matter, I’d be shouting at him about something, he’d be shouting at me about something, just growling.’

But Ferdinand did admit his former United team-mate ‘unplayable’ at the height of his career

Ferdinand also said Rooney, who scored 253 goals for United, was ‘unplayable’ at times but did admit he would try and wind him up if he was an opponent to get the better of him.

‘The Rooney that played as a No 9, I think he was almost unplayable at times,’ Ferdinand added.

‘As a nine he was a joke, even in the Euros when he first dropped onto the scenes. He was doing mad stuff, like, “Wow, who is this?”.

‘He was just like a machine. That’s the only thing I would think of, if a player was a bit of a needle I’d try and get into it and wind him up.

‘That’s what I would have done, try to wind him up maybe. And you’re hoping he maybe leaves it late on someone and gets a red card.’

‘Pereira OUT, Lampard IN’: Everton fans graffiti a wall at Goodison to call for ex-Porto boss to GO (before he’s even started!) as they step up angry protests at the club’s direction under Farhad Moshiri

  • Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira is close to becoming the new Everton manager
  • But Toffees fans have already started protesting against the potential move
  • Fans have graffitied the stadium and held up banners outside club offices

Furious Everton fans have ramped up protests over the impending appointing of Vitor Pereira as the new Toffees manager by graffitiing a wall at Goodison Park and protesting outside club offices in Liverpool.

An Everton fan account on Twitter – The Toffee Blues – shared an image of the graffiti at the stadium, which reads: ‘Pereira out, Lampard in’ after news, reported by Sportsmail, emerged that the Portuguese coach was closing in on replacing Rafa Benitez.

Another fan group called the 27yearscampaign – a reference to Everton’s time without silverware – protested outside the Royal Liver Building where club offices are based. They are calling for owner Farhad Moshiri to engage with the club’s supporters and held up banners reading: ‘Moshiri if you want success then change this mess’.

Vitor Pereira has impressed Everton’s hierarchy in talks with Merseyside club in recent days

Pereira has held talks with Everton in London and impressed the club’s hierarchy, with Moshiri looking to make a ‘forward-thinking’ appointment.

But he appears to be causing the same uproar seen last summer when Everton appointed Liverpool favourite Benitez as manager.

Anger has been rising at the Everton board in recent weeks and Benitez’s departure has done little to quell the unrest.

After Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Aston Villa, fans held up signs saying ‘sack the board’ while a plane was flown over the stadium calling for chairman Bill Kenwright to go after ’22 years of failure’.

Benitez was sacked earlier in January after a dramatic slide in form that saw Everton record just one win in 13 matches, with Frank Lampard and Toffees hero Wayne Rooney linked with replacing him.

But Sportsmail reported on Sunday that Pereira, who has twice been interviewed for the Everton job before, had emerged as a serious contender for the vacancy.

Pereira has won nine trophies during his managerial career, the most eye-catching being the two Portuguese league titles with Porto in 2012 and 2013.

His most recent job was at Turkish club Fenerbahce but he was sacked in December 2021, six months after taking the job on a two-year deal, with the team 14 points off first place.

Lampard, meanwhile, has been out of work for a year after being sacked by Chelsea.

It is a move that has been vindicated by the London club with successor Thomas Tuchel leading them to Champions League glory but Lampard blooded a number of young players who have established themselves as key men at Stamford Bridge.

Sportsmail reported on Tuesday night that only a late U-turn would scupper Pereira’s hopes of landing the Goodison Park job.

It remains to be seen if owner Moshiri wants to risk further distancing himself from the fanbase.

Everton are 16th in the Premier League table, four points above the bottom three but face a huge clash with 18th-place Newcastle in their next league match on February 8.

Kylian Mbappe hails PSG team-mate Achraf Hakimi as the ‘best right back in the world’ after he scored a stunning free-kick to help Morocco book their place in the AFCON quarter-finals

  • Kylian Mbappe says team-mate Achraf Hakimi is the best right back in the world
  • Hakimi stepped up and scored a sublime free-kick winner for Morocco in AFCON
  • The 23-year-old curled home an outrageous effort from distance to settle the tie
  • Morocco came from behind to beat Malawi 2-1 to reach the quarter-final stage

Kylian Mbappe has made the bold claim of describing his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Achraf Hakimi as the best right back in the world after his magical goal for Morocco on Tuesday night.

With their Africa Cup of Nations last-16 tie with Malawi locked at 1-1 with 20 minutes to go, Hakimi stepped up and scored a sublime winner.

The former Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund star curled in an outrageous free-kick from 25 yards out, prompting wild celebrations among his Morocco team-mates.

But Hakimi earned extremely high praise from one of his club colleagues on Twitter, with Mbappe effusive in his praise for the 23-year-old.

Mbappe tweeted: ‘ACHRAF HAKIMI. BEST RB IN THE WORLD. GOOD NIGHT GUYS.’

Hakimi is certainly in the conversation for that title after a stunning few seasons that included him winning the Serie A title at Inter Milan last year.

He has also chalked up double figures for assists in his last two full campaigns with Inter and Dortmund.

Hakimi joined PSG last summer for a fee of £60million, amid interest from Chelsea and a host of other top clubs.

But Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joao Cancelo of Manchester City will surely have something to say about their place in the right back rankings.

Morocco desperately needed Hakimi’s goal they came from behind to beat Malawi 2-1 and stay on course for their first African title in over 45 years.

His outrageous strike completed the turnaround at the Ahmadou Ahidjou Stadium after Youssef En-Nesyri had equalised on the stroke of halftime.

Malawi went ahead early after a stunner of their own from Frank Mhango, who hit a speculative left-footed effort from distance and watched as the swerving ball caught out Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou and crashed into the top of the net.

Morocco will meet either Ivory Coast or Egypt in their quarter-final in Yaounde.

Newcastle ‘are set to miss out on a move for Atalanta defender Robin Gosens to Inter Milan’ even though the mega-rich Magpies ‘have offered the German international a bigger wage than the Serie A champions’

  • Newcastle are set to miss out on a move for Atalanta’s Robin Gosens, say reports
  • The German international impressed at Euro 2020 but has been injured this term
  • Gosens would earn around £57,000 a week at Newcastle but prefers Inter Milan
  • Inter are reportedly offering just £42,000 a week in a loan with an option to buy

Newcastle are set to miss out on Atalanta full-back Robin Gosens this January as he is set to favour a move to Inter Milan, according to reports.

The German full-back, who has been out injured with a hamstring problem since September, impressed at Euro 2020 for Joachim Loew’s national side and has been a target for some of Europe’s top teams for some time.

Reports in Italy claimed this month that mega-rich Newcastle are ready to triple the 27-year-old’s wages as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the relegation battle run-in.

But according to Goal, Gosens prefers a move to Inter – who have offered Atalanta the possibility of a loan until the end of the season with an option to by the German for £21million in the summer.

The report adds that Newcastle are prepared to offer the Atalanta a £57,000 a week contract – nearly three times as much he is reportedly on at the Bergamo club – but Gosens is more open to joining Inter on a £42,000 a week contract.

The German international is set to be out until the middle of February and a move to Inter could see him play a part in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title challenge.

Simone Inzaghi’s side moved into the winter break four points clear of rivals AC Milan and Napoli having played a game more.

Gosens’ Atalanta, meanwhile, are ten points behind Inter in fourth place, having played the same amount of games.

Newcastle have wasted little time in showing their ambition in the transfer market after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) completed their controversial takeover of the club in October.

They bought Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for £12million, before exercising Chris Wood’s buy-out clause to sign the English striker from Burnley.

Eddie Howe’s Magpies went into the international break in relatively good form, picking up five points from a possible nine in their last three Premier League games to move one point from safety.
