The hidden meaning behind Royal Family's birthday message for Sophie Wessex

As well as being a patron of Guide Dogs, Sophie has a vast portfolio of patronages which include supporting people with disabilities, helping young people and eradicating avoidable blindness, among many others.

In March 2020, Sophie also visited South Sudan during International Women’s Week to meet survivors of gender-based violence, marking the first time a member of the Royal Family had visited the region.

In recent years Sophie has emerged as one of the Royal Family’s most prominent members, often completing royal duties and engagements on behalf of the Queen.

And on a personal level, Sophie is thought to be very close to her mother-in-law, affectionately referring to the Queen as ‘mama’ during a speech a few years ago.
