Thomas Tuchel is still confident that Chelsea can keep hold of Antonio Rudiger, despite the German defender’s contract ending this summer.

And the Blues head coach has also stated there is a ‘very high probability’ that captain Cesar Azpilicueta will also stay on after a contract extension was triggered.

Reports this week suggested that representatives of Rudiger had met with officials from Barcelona ahead of a potential free transfer this summer.

However, Tuchel believes that the 29-year-old could still be at Stamford Bridge come the start of next season.

‘If it’s true, of course,’ when asked if he was concerned about Rudiger’s agents meeting in Spain.  ‘I would want to meet him if I was any other club.

‘I think we have a good chance that he stays our player. The situation is still the situation. Our hands are tied. We cannot renegotiate with him.

‘Fair enough, if it’s true that he listens to other offers. That’s the way things go.’

Speaking on Azpilicueta’s new deal, Tuchel added: ‘I knew it was going to happen, because I knew the amount of games. It’s a good thing. It’s good news for us.

‘[There is a] Very high probability that he will stay.’

Tuchel, who confirmed that Callum Hudson-Odoi is Chelsea’s only fresh injury worry ahead of their clash with Brentford on Saturday, was less bullish when it came to the topic of Andreas Christensen’s futures.

Reports this week suggested the Denmark international has agreed terms with Barcelona over a free transfer move this summer, and Tuchel did not play down those suggestions.

‘We heard the rumours,’ he admitted. ‘I have no confirmation for you.’
