Tottenham have expressed interest in signing Newcastle target Diego Carlos.

The defender played for Sevilla in their 1-1 draw with Valencia on Wednesday night but has asked to leave the LaLiga side.

AC Milan have proposed a deal for the 28-year-old Brazilian but it has fallen short short of Newcastle’s £28m offer.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is hopeful of adding to his side during the January transfer window, in an attempt to boost their chances of obtaining a top-four finish to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Newcastle have already signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, but are said to be in the market to boost their defensive options.

It was previously reported that the Magpies have withdrawn their interest in Lille’s Sven Botman as the club’s president, Olivier Letang, announced that the Dutch centre-half would staying in France.    

The Brazilian defender is said to be keen on the move and negotiations are over a deal are taking place.

Carlos joined Sevilla from Nantes in 2019 and has gone on to make 106 appearances for the club. 

AC Milan meanwhile remain keen on a loan deal for Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga.

The 22-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competition for Spurs so far this season. 

Premier League sides have until 11pm on Monday, January 31, to complete their signings.
