V8 Supercars Bathurst 1000 champ David Reynolds reveals the bizarre MEAT-ONLY diet that’s seen him drop ‘a bulls**t amount of weight quickly’

  • V8 Supercars driver David Reynolds has turned to a carnivore diet this year
  • Many athletes have turned their back on meat in order to win marginal gains
  • However, Reynolds says a meat only diet has replenished his energy and clarity
  • The racer typically eats steak and eggs for breakfast in this radical new diet

A legion of athletes are saying no to meat in a bid to win any ‘marginal gains’ in their chosen profession, but V8 Supercars star David Reynolds has gone in the opposite direction – and has reaped the benefits.

Reynolds chose to follow a carnivore diet – whereby he is restricted to only animal and meat products – at the start of the year, excluding all other foods such as fruit, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds in the process.

The diet stems from the controversial belief that human ancestral populations ate mostly meat and fish, with high-carb diets being blamed for the current high rate of chronic disease.

An all-meat diet is claimed to aid weight loss, mood issues and blood sugar regulation, among a number of other health issues.

And Reynolds – who eats foods like eggs, offal and marrow, insists he now feels ‘amazing’ with a renewed energy and clarity after shifting seven kilograms.

‘I train all the time and I have never really moved the needle at all, I have every year always just put on a little bit more weight, it doesn’t come off unless you go really strict on yourself but then you are hungry and you hate your life and food tastes s**t,’ Reynolds said via The Daily Telegraph.

‘Then I heard of this diet, friends of mine have done really well on just eating meat.

‘So I started it and thought, ‘What have I got to lose?’ and I just straight away (lost weight) very quickly, like a bulls**t amount of weight quickly.

‘I have lost seven kilos, most of that in the first month.

‘I feel good because I always struggle with energy levels during the day and get to lunchtime and feel s**t but now I have got stable energy the whole day, I feel amazing.’

The 2017 Bathurst winner previously followed a paleo diet but now starts the day eating steak and eggs, and sometimes varies things by having liver early in the day, which tides him over until dinner.

‘I probably didn’t s**t for about two days and then I had the runs for a day and then it just went back to normal so eventually your body does adjust to what you eat,’ Reynolds added.

‘I’ll keep it going for as long as something happens ….I’ll get my bloods taken and monitor myself but if you feel better I don’t understand how it isn’t better for you.’
